DEARBORN, Mich. – New sessions and workshops on additive manufacturing will be featured at 2013 RAPID Conference and Exposition according to the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME). RAPID will take place June 10-13, 2013, at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, Penn.
“RAPID is designed to immerse attendees in all aspects of additive manufacturing,” said SME Business Development Manager Gary Mikola. “They can choose from nearly 80 sessions and workshops on a particular technology and then see it demonstrated on the expo floor.”
Additive manufacturing (AM), often referred to as 3D printing, uses data obtained through 3D imaging as a roadmap to make products. Located just 40 minutes from the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute (NAMII), RAPID will include cutting-edge AM and 3D imaging technologies and the institute’s ongoing effort to help revitalize the American manufacturing sector. SME is heavily involved in technology transition and dissemination, and the education and training of practitioners through the institute. The following exposition events are open to RAPID registered attendees.
Workshops on additive technologies and applications will be held Monday, June 10. Registration for any one workshop includes lunch, admission to the Conference Kick-Off on Monday afternoon, and admission to the expo on Tuesday and Wednesday. Workshops include:
- Fundamentals: Additive Manufacturing
- Fundamentals of 3D Scanning and 3D Modeling
- Fundamentals of RTV Mold-making and Polyurethane Casting – NEW
- Metal Parts Using Additive Technologies
The RAPID Conference has been the industry-leading forum for more than 20 years. Conference sessions are held Tuesday, June 11, and Wednesday, June 12, and focus on the latest developments, trends and techniques specific to additive manufacturing, rapid technologies, 3D printing and 3D imaging across a variety of industries. Sessions include:
- 3D Imaging and Scanning
- Additive Manufacturing Applications
- Additive Manufacturing Research – NEW
- Applications for Transportation including Aerospace and Aircraft
