- Phoenix-based technology company brings innovation & #CoCreationNation to DC area
Phoenix, Ariz. June 8, 2015 – Local Motors brings its Mobifactory (Mobi) to Crystal City to inspire and unite the Co-creation Nation for a summer of innovation and making in the heart of our nation’s capital. “The “Mobi” adds yet another new layer to the innovation hub that’s taking shape in Crystal City, a place that’s fast becoming a community of makers and creatives of all kinds.” said Mitchell Schear, President of Vornado/Charles E. Smith.
“Demonstrating both the making potential and scalability of Local Motors’ disruptive approach to manufacturing, the Mobi is meant for collaborative locations like Crystal City,” says Local Motors CEO and Co-founder, John B. Rogers Jr.
Crystal City features maker-studio TechShop, several incubators including 1776 and Eastern Foundry, and WeWork’s new concept under development. A dynamic neighborhood, Crystal City is home to creative businesses, residents, visitors, top restaurants and amenities, every conceivable kind of transit, and a robust calendar of events and activities throughout the year.
The summer of innovation at the Crystal City Mobi starts June 8 through late August and features the Local Motors Verrado, an electric drift trike designed to bring out the kid in everyone; the Local Motors Rally Fighter, the world’s first co-created vehicle; and the Local Motors 3D-printed car, the first and only drivable 3D-printed car.
Open to the public, the Mobi will offer free weekly how-to classes on the “Science of Drifting” and “3D-Printing 101.” Each month, visitors are invited to participate in drag race slalom courses or join a trike group to tour the best places to ride drift trikes in the area. Experience the Mobi from June 8 – August 31; hours of operation are weekdays 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the weekend. Visit the Local Motors Mobi at 1900 Crystal Drive, Arlington, VA 22202. Local Motors plans to expand their presence in the DC area in late 2015 with a permanent microfactory location in National Harbor. The Grand Opening of the Local Motors Mobifactory will be held on June 11th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Attendees will receive a free t-shirt (while supplies last), and watch drifting experts demo the Local Motors Verrado drift trike. It’s a free event, but RSVPs are encouraged.
