- This Ingeo 3D grade offers PLA filament manufacturers the opportunity to expand sales into the industrial prototyping and additive manufacturing market with a unique, cost effective product that will delight customers with its overall quality, printability, and part performance
MINNETONKA, Minn., February 28, 2017 — Today NatureWorks introduced Ingeo™ 3D870, a new cost-effective grade for 3D filament manufacturers looking for innovative means of expanding sales into the industrial prototyping and additive manufacturing market. Feedback from filament manufacturers that have trialed the product commend the ease of processing Ingeo 3D870 and printer manufacturers praise its printability; both have uniformly said there are no materials available today that provide this combination of superior filament processing, printability, and printed part performance characteristics.
With its 3D series of Ingeo grades, NatureWorks is the leading supplier of PLA to the 3D filament manufacturing industry. Every filament carrying NatureWorks’ Ingeo brand name has passed a defined set of tests to assure the quality of the product. Quality filament ensures reliable printing and predictable performance. NatureWorks developed Ingeo 3D870 to meet the growing demand by industrial companies for a material that combines the properties of ABS and the printability of Ingeo PLA.
Ingeo 3D870 complies with chemical inventory listings in key markets in North America, Asia, and Europe, which expands sales opportunities for filament manufacturers. Parts produced with the formulation exceed ABS 3D parts in impact strength and, with post-print annealing, rival ABS heat resistance. (See accompanying chart.)
- Annealed for 10-20 min @ 110-120ºC
- Values from literature
- All test bars were 3D printed at 100% infill. For more on orientations of printed parts, see the Ingeo 3D870 technical data sheet on www.natureworksllc.com
- 3D870 was tested by Essentium Materials
Ingeo General Purpose PLA is good for many applications, including 3D printing, but 3D850 and 3D870 have been designed specifically for 3D printing. Building on reliable, easy printability, these two grades offer good UV color lightfastness, low yellow index, and can be crystallized to realize additional heat and impact properties. 3D870 was designed specifically for the impact strength required in industrial applications.
Filament manufacturers interested in learning more about the ease of processing Ingeo 3D870 into filament, its printability, and ABS-rivaling performance are invited to contact their NatureWorks representative or local distributor.
