- New 3D metal printing system combines largest symmetrical build chamber and compact footprint
Eindhoven, The Netherlands – On the first day of its Additive World Conference, Additive Industries has presented a new entry-level model of its MetalFAB1 industrial 3D metal printing system. The system is developed specifically for process & application development and prototyping. Its compact footprint and competitive price point help first time users to gain experience with metal additive manufacturing before scaling for series production.
The main specifications are:
- Process type: Laser based Powder Bed Fusion
- Build volume (xyz): 420 x 420 x 400 [mm] (16.5 x 16.5 x 15.8 [in])
- Laser type: 1 to 4 full field Yb fibre lasers at 500 [W] (later this year 1 [kW])
- Features: automatic powder handling and extraction, long life filter, smart calibration
- Upgradable: fully upgradable to a 3 or more module MetalFAB1 for series production
The modular architecture, typical for the MetalFAB1 system family, allows for upgrading to a full size MetalFAB1 system later. The technology and build volume (420 x 420 x 400 [mm]) are identical to the larger size systems for series production.
Existing users like Airbus and GKN might use the new system to develop the build strategies and process settings for new materials and applications before transferring these to their larger industrial MetalFAB1 systems for series production. This prevents disturbance of their production planning and regular operations. “This machine is the result of a productive dialogue with our customers and prospective users and completes the range of MetalFAB1 systems for industrial metal additive manufacturing”, said Mark Vaes, CTO of Additive Industries. “There is no other solution offering so much flexibility to expand in combination with future proof 3D printing capabilities”, added Co-founder & CEO, Daan Kersten.
