SAN DIEGO, CA, Sep 12, 2017 – Formalloy, LLC, an additive manufacturing company based out of San Diego, released the new L-series Laser Metal Deposition machine which includes an inert gas build chamber, scientific monitoring capability and a Blue wavelength laser.
Leveraging the latest in Blue Laser technology from NUBURU Inc., the L-222 machine can be used to 3D print, repair and clad metallic parts using a greater range of materials more quickly and accurately than comparable processes.
This groundbreaking release positions Formalloy as the first company to perform Laser Metal Deposition with this new Blue laser technology. The first machine of this type has completed production and is slated to be installed at the end of September at University of California – San Diego (UCSD)’s Department of Nanotechnology.
Compared to industry-standard IR wavelength, the L-series machine’s Blue laser absorption is 3 – 20x better, resulting in process speed gains of 2-10x. Blue Lasers enable material processing capabilities not possible or with low yields with IR, and the “spot size” of the laser is more than 5x smaller than IR. Blue Lasers enable precision, resolution, and higher finish quality. Formalloy is making new wave(length)s by integrating this game-changing technology into its latest machine release.
