EOS, a world leading technology supplier in the field of industrial 3D printing of metals and polymers, today announced its membership to the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) based in Coventry, England. The MTC membership demonstrates EOS’s continued commitment to the UK’s manufacturing sector.
Established in 2010, the MTC is an independent Research and Technology Organisation (RTO) with the objective of bridging the gap between academia and industry – often referred to as ‘the valley of death’. It represents one of the largest public sector investments in UK manufacturing to date. Over the past five years, the MTC has grown rapidly and has seen the expansion of its campus with the construction of three major facilities, including the opening of the National Centre for Additive Manufacturing in 2015.
Ross Trepleton, Chief Engineer – AM Pre-Production at the MTC said: “It’s fantastic to have EOS join the MTC as a global leader in industrial 3D printing. The company’s knowledge and experience in the sector will only benefit our wider-partner network, and we look forward to further strengthening this relationship moving forward.”
EOS, whose technology is currently implemented by a number of high profile companies across several industrials including automotive, aerospace and healthcare, continues to drive the adoption of industry 4.0 in the UK.
Gary Taylor, Regional Manager, UK&I commented: “One of the biggest challenges for the additive manufacturing industry is how we best educate our customers to fully understand the benefits of the technology for their production strategy. This is why organisations like the MTC are so important.”
“A particularly significant challenge in the UK is the current skills gap. There is an apparent knowledge deficit of additive manufacturing and industrial 3D printing in the UK, and globally. This is a critical barrier preventing businesses from embracing disruptive technologies—and ultimately remaining competitive against innovation elsewhere. It’s therefore important we’re working alongside organisations like the MTC and its members to enable the factories of the future.”
