Chihuahua heat treating specialist invests in the future with installation of HIP equipped with Universal Rapid Cooling
Västerås, Sweden, January 16, 2020 – Based in Chihuahua, Mexico, HT-MX specializes in heat treatment and metallurgical lab services for the aerospace and automotive markets. When it decided to add to its already extensive range of services and expand its aerospace presence, the company found the ideal partner in Quintus Technologies.
Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) has long been the preferred method of manufacturers around the world to eliminate pores and remove defects from materials. However, in Mexico there were no businesses able to offer HIP services, until now.
New technology for a well-established business
The rapidly growing heat treatment specialist has become the first in Mexico to invest in a HIP system. After a thorough evaluation of available systems, HT-MX decided to work with Quintus Technologies, choosing the model QIH 48 M URC® press. URC is the proprietary Quintus uniform rapid cooling feature that combines HIP and heat treatment in a single process.
“When getting into new projects with, for us, unknown technologies, it’s important to minimize any perceived risk,” says Humberto Ramos Fernandez, CEO at HT-MX. “And having the world’s leader as your equipment supplier certainly helps with that. For our kind of operation, we are looking for quality, safety, efficiency, and easy maintenance. With the press from Quintus we have found that it meets our needs so far. We’re still early in our HIP career, but we look forward to continue supplying our customers with high quality HIP processes via Quintus equipment for years to come.”
The QIH 48 M URC, packed with innovative, proprietary technology, offers a hot zone measuring 14.8 inches (375 mm) in diameter and 47.2 inches (1200 mm) in height. The press operates at a temperature of 2550°F (1400°C) and a pressure of up to 2070 bar (30,000 psi).
Investing in the future
HT-MX’s investment covered more than equipment alone, as gas storage, NADCAP hardware, and a long-term Quintus® Care program were also part of the order.
Being new to HIP technology, it was important for HT-MX to be able to commit to the long term alongside Quintus Technologies. Quintus Care ensures that the heat treating specialist will have full access to knowledge, insights, and service whenever required.
“This is a project we have been studying for a while now,” adds Mr. Ramos Fernández. “Quintus Technologies has been very helpful during the sales process and also during the installation process. It is a complex, high-tech piece of equipment, and it gives me some peace of mind knowing that our supplier is there to back us up.”
“For us, to be able to offer Quintus Care to new customers is so important, especially when it’s in a new market,” explains Jan Söderström, CEO of Quintus Technologies. “We’re happy to be able to offer our comprehensive service solution to help HT-MX provide the best HIP experience for its clients.”
