Larsen Motorsports Becomes an Affilliate of CAMID M

Palm Bay, FL, May 10, 2022 – Larsen Motorsports (LMS) announces today the official affiliation with Florida Tech’s CAMID (Center for Advanced Manufacturing and Innovative Design) facility. This affiliation allows for an entirely new avenue of educational development along with mutually beneficial projects and interactive workshops.

Projects are at the forefront of this affiliation, meaning that both affiliates will be working hard to innovate and design elements that further academia as well as industries that relate to aerospace, motorsports, defense, manufacturing and many more. Projects will range in complexity as well as duration. With each new project, LMS and CAMID will keep end-to-end documentation of all training procedures as well as results from various stages of the project. Projects will involve students from Florida Tech as well as employees from LMS and CAMID.

The first project within this affiliation, LMS Director of Operations, Brian Tocci, is working alongside Florida Tech student interns to create a 3D printed steering wheel for the LMS jet dragsters. John Kochenberger, a Florida Tech graduate student, is one of the interns working on this project. Kochenberger has his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from Florida Tech and is currently studying Mechanical Engineering with a focus in Design and Manufacturing for his graduate degree. The digital designs for this product were developed utilizing Siemens NX software. Various prototypes have been printed utilizing plastic materials. The final steering wheel design will be printed with Carbon Fiber continuous fiber laid into a composite based material, Onyx. The steering wheel will be printed on a Markforged 3D printer located within the CAMID facility. The printer is the X7 carbon fiber 3D printer which enables engineers and designers to fundamentally improve manufacturing operations at light speed.

LMS is focusing on integrating higher levels of additive manufacturing into its procedures, and this new affiliation aids this goal. LMS and CAMID will be collaborating on numerous projects that have yet to be announced.
